SNOWFLAKE CLASSIC 2011 Twice a year Novaks Gymnastic Center in Dumfries, VA hosts events for their class students to be able to show off what they've learned over the past six months or so to their family and friends. On Sunday, the 11th, they held such a show, called the Snowflake Classic. Approximately 50 students from 3-12 years old, boys and girls, performed for their parents. "This is really a great opportunity for kids to perform for their parents and for the parents to really show their support for their kids," says the owner, whom the kids and staff affectionately call "Jarka." Attending such an event is not without certain benefits, however. Santa paid a special visit towards the end of the event, delivering organic lollipops, tangerines, and of course, candy canes. The entire event was also put on for the benefit of several local charities. $500 was raised. The staff all volunteered their time, while the business donated the facility and utilities. One of the charities benefiting from this event was Trevor's Treasures. Trevor's Treasures is a non-profit group founded to help children suffering from cancer. Trevor Blake founded the organization with the help of his mother when he was diagnosed with a rare form of childhood cancer. The organization accepts donations of new and slightly used toys which Trevor then delivers personally to the patients then receiving treatment. He literally goes room to room with his box of toys allowing the kids to pick a toy from the box at each bed. Other group benefiting from the event was the Prince William County Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Fund.

ST. BALDRICK'S DAY WAS AWESOME! The St. Baldrick's Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives. Every year on St. Baldrick's day people from all walks of life shave their heads to show support for the many children battling childhood cancer today. On Thursday the 10th, Novaks' held a special event to benefit this foundation and raised $200. One of our coaches had his head shaved by a local 3-time cancer survivor, Trevor Blake. The money that we raised helped Trevor to reach his goal; he raised over $1,000! For those who still wish to contribute to Trevor's St. Baldrick's fundraising account, we will be accepting donations in the office throughout the month of March.
